It may seem pointless to compare over strokes, relays vs. individual, men vs. women and LC vs. SC, but as a trivial pursuit I was interested to see which of the 108 world records from 2008 took you aback the most with its pure unadulterated speed and awesomeness.
The inherently flawed Fina points system scores it thusly:
Men: LCM- USA 4x100 FS Relay 1112 points (Phelps' 4:03.84 2nd, Bal's 24.33 3rd)
SCM- Ryan Lochte 100 I.M 1132 points (Leveaux's 50 and 100 FS close behind)
Women: LCM- Australia 4x100 medley relay 1124 points (Sophie Edington's 27.67 in 2nd)
SCM- Marleen Veldhuis 50 FS and Marieke Guehrer 50 Fly 1126 points
(Although not an official WR, France's mind-bending 1:20.71 4x50 FS relay garnered them 1197 points!!)
So, setting aside the only objective measuring stick we have, I thought that Phelps' 1:42.96 200 FS, Leveaux's 44.94 monument and Markus Rogan's negative split 1:47.84 were my 3 runners up, with the winner being the mens 4x100 free. But thats just my opinion, what was your favourite?
